Victoria Beckham made child’s play of her Spring 2018 collection on day four of New York Fashion Week.
“It’s Play-Doh, it’s ice-cream but it’s not too saccharine,” the designer told reporters backstage of the colour scheme of the collection, which included pale pastels in shades of lilac, pink and salmon contrasting with bold red, and black and white.
“It’s not too sickly sweet, but it feels fresh and happy. I used to wear so much black, and now I really enjoy wearing colour.”
Beckham’s daughter Harper, 6, may have had a hand in those influences, and she certainly was in mind for the accessories for the collection.
“I love the sparkly shoes ― I’m obsessed with the Harper slipper. And the little anklets. They are just so cute. It’s like a fresh way of wearing jewellery,” Beckham said.
There was an easiness to the collection, that included relaxed tailoring, boyish shirting, and classic pieces such as the trenchcoat reimagined in silk with ruffles. One of the most ubiquitous trends in recent seasons, ruffles also hung from waistlines and gently circled necks.
Full monochromatic looks in red or lilac played against tonal ensembles in different shades of pink.
“For me, that’s how I want to dress,” she said of the collection. “You know I didn’t want to create a collection of showpieces. Yes, fashion is fantasy, but you can really wear these clothes.”
Beckham’s husband, retired football star David, sat frontrow in support between their eldest son, 18-year-old Brooklyn, and the new editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful. The Beckhams’ younger three children were absent.
Another designer playing with a similar palette of pastels with bold injections of brights was Sander Lak. For his Sies Marjan label’s fourth catwalk show, he invited guests into his studio, where he continued to impress with his fluid silk dresses that skim the body.
In addition he included more unusual fabrics including a crinkly metallic jacquard, notably in a belted trouser suit, and dyed shearling in fluffy jackets.Read more at:one shoulder formal dresses | plus size formal dresses
